A few weeks ago I came into possession of a 1949 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter. A mid-century design masterpiece. My affinity with 1950’s design came long before my obsession with the show MadMen, Eames’ chairs, or Frank Lloyd Write it actually started with my likeness for Apple Computers. Of course Apple wasn’t even around in the 50’s But this guy was. Dieter Rams, The grandfather of all Apple products and a revolutionary in Modern design.
The above illustration was birthed from my time learning about and playing with my new toy. I am not an industrial designer but I am a designer of visual experiences. Much like a modern designer would think about form, function, flow, ergonomics, and elimination I too think about these things, form of objects, function of symbols, ergonomics of the eye, flow of a composition, and the elimination of the meaningless. I am in the process of making this into a screen-printed poster, would any of you be interested in a poster of this image?
